What is Collaborate?
Last updated: September 30, 2026
Collaborate is Ivo's AI-native contract orchestration product. It gives legal and business teams a shared workspace for the full pre-signature contract lifecycle: intake, document generation, AI Review, negotiation, collaboration, and signature.
The core mental model is the issues list. Collaborate turns playbook, benchmark, and risk-flag review findings into issue cards, routes them to the right reviewer, and carries issues, decisions, redlines, comments, and history across every round of negotiation.
Key concepts
Group — a business or approval unit such as Legal, Finance, or Security. Admins define its members, who may be Ivo users or external guests.
Matter — the workspace for one transaction or deal. It contains all related agreements, versions, people, issues, comments, decisions, and history.
Document — an individual contract document within a Matter, with its own versions and issues.
Issue — a negotiable point created by AI Review or manually from selected contract language. Each issue has an owner, a status, comments, and a full history.
Reviewer — the person responsible for reviewing and actioning assigned issues.
Turn — one party's pass through the agreement. A new turn begins when the party holding the pen changes.
Version — a saved state of the document. If a draft is sent to the counterparty or received back from them, it should be versioned up.
Settle — accepts the existing language in the agreement and closes the issue. An issue also becomes Settled when the counterparty accepts a countered position on a later turn.
Counter — the user selects a suggested redline informed by the playbook, benchmark, and risk flags, and applies it against the counterparty's proposed wording. The issue remains open until the counterparty accepts it or the user settles.
Escalate — transfers ownership and decision authority to another person, who may then Settle, Counter, or reassign onward.
How Collaborate works
Received paper
This is the flow for reviewing and negotiating a contract sent by a counterparty.
A user uploads one or more documents and selects the applicable workflow.
Collaborate suggests the Matter association, runs AI Review using the workflow's configured playbooks, benchmarks, and risk flags, and produces the first issues list.
The reviewer receives their assigned issues and works through each one, choosing to Settle, Counter, or Escalate.
When ready, the user sends the document to the counterparty.
When the counterparty returns their redlines, the Matter Owner uploads the new version. Collaborate compares it with the existing issues list, closes accepted positions, keeps disputed issues open, and adds any new issues.
This cycle continues until all issues are Settled, at which point the document is ready for signature.
First party paper (DocGen)
This is the flow for generating a contract from your own templates.
A user selects a workflow with a template and answers the pre-configured questions, such as entity name or governing law.
Collaborate generates the document from those answers.
The user associates the document with a Matter and sends it to the counterparty or downloads it for manual sending.
If the counterparty returns redlines, the Matter Owner uploads the returned version and the negotiation flow above applies.
Once all issues are Settled, the user initiates signature.
Auto-approval
When a document passes the workflow's configured AI Review with no issues found, it is automatically approved and the user receives a notification confirming it is ready for signature. No manual review is required.
Platforms
Collaborate is available on the Ivo web app and the Word add-in. Slack integration is also available for intake and notifications.
